Margarita Avitia, LCSW
Margarita is a bilingual/bicultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has over 18 years' experience working with underserved and marginalized individuals, children, families and elderly people from different backgrounds and lifestyles. She has served as a Community Organizer, Community Health Worker, Navigator, Child Protective Services Investigator, In-Home Services Practitioner, School Social Worker and since 2010 as a Bilingual Therapist/Behavioral Clinician.
Over the past decade Margarita has specialized in substance use disorders/dual diagnosis with a focus on our geriatric population as a Behavioral Clinician at a Medical Clinic. She views it as a joy and honor to accompany those struggling with alcohol or drug misuse in their journey of seeking recovery and personal growth, partnering with them to identify their strengths and reinforce their own wisdom.
Margarita is the founder of MI Cultura Coaching LLC, which provides bilingual training and coaching in Motivational Interviewing both nationally and internationally. She takes pride in being a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). During her workshop at the Te Pae in New Zealand she witnessed how MI has an empowering effect in uniting diverse communities. She holds an MSW from New Mexico Highland University.
